The 51³Ô¹Ï Healthy Campuses Committee is committed to collaboration among post-secondary institutions (colleges and universities) on a regional basis. The Committee wants to foster an environment where students possess the skills and resources necessary to flourish – from survive to thrive!

Committee Terms of Reference

Goals

The Committee will focus on three specific areas of action including:

  1. Institutional Commitment
  2. Resiliency and Coping
  3. Increase Service Capacity

This specific focus will allow for the development of the following goals:

  1. Encourage efforts to eliminate silos and integrate health and well-being into the core mandate of universities
  2. Identify, discuss, and share knowledge of evolving best practice models for addressing mental health needs of students at Atlantic Canadian universities and colleges using strength-based approaches based on multiple determinates of health
  3. Collaborate on projects of common interest that could be implemented across campuses
  4. Advocate for enhancing mental health services on campuses and for collaboration with local, regional, and provincial health authorities
  5. Develop, identify and promote professional development opportunities for service providers in the area of post-secondary student mental health; Identify and promote tools to support on policy and systems of delivery; Incorporate principles of broad community development wellness models (Healthy Minds I Healthy Campus, Canadian Health Promoting Campuses Network (CHPCN), Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)) in the conversations on policy and practice Identify and promote tools to support on policy and systems of delivery
  6. Encourage campus crisis management strategies that are proactive and include highly accessible, just-in-time mental health supports
  7. Involve students and student leaders as partners in the Committee’s efforts
  8. Collaboration with regional health authorities

Operational Scope

The 51³Ô¹Ï Healthy Campuses Committee will:

  1. Host an annual Atlantic post-secondary healthy campuses conference with a focus on the development of healthy campus communities
  2. Maintain an online repository for sharing knowledge, innovations, models, and best practices among member institutions, as well as Committee and Executive Committee meeting minutes
  3. Develop and assess a rolling 3-year strategy document
  4. Prepare brief annual reports and/or updates for the 51³Ô¹Ï Executive Committee, member institution presidents, and public release

Governance

The 51³Ô¹Ï Healthy Campuses Committee will:

  1. Make decisions by consensus. When consensus is not possible, decisions will be made by vote or on the authority of the Chair(s)
  2. Prepare an annual update on Committee activities for member institution presidents and a report for public release
