Founded in 1873 in Mi’kma’ki, the unceded and ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq People, Mount Saint Vincent University has been nationally recognized for having one of the lowest student-to-professor ratios, for providing students early access to valuable research opportunities, for its legacy in the advancement of women, and for facilitating critical advancements in food security, healthy aging, literacy, and childhood development.

MSVU prioritizes equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility. The university was founded on a commitment to the advancement of women and girls and remains a leading university for the support of women, while emphasizing accessibility of education for various underserved populations.

Based on a strong tradition of social responsibility, MSVU takes a personalized approach to education to nurture socially responsible global citizens. The university offers a wide range of respected undergraduate and graduate programs in Arts, Science, Education and Professional Studies.

MSVU has been a leader in distance learning for the past 40 years and today offers 200 courses, 11 complete undergraduate programs and four complete graduate programs entirely online. As well, every program at MSVU has an internship, co-op or practicum opportunity attached – in fact, MSVU is a leader in experiential learning as the home of the oldest and second largest accredited co-operative education program in the Atlantic region. As well, through agreements with other post-secondary institutions (e.g. several Maritime community colleges, including NSCC and NBCC), students can transfer to MSVU with credit for their previous studies.

MSVU’s research centres provide exceptional opportunities for students to work and learn alongside leading researchers (among them several Canada Research Chairs and other named Chairs) who are facilitating advancements in areas such as food security, new food product development, gender, early childhood development and P-12 education, literacy, learning disabilities, healthy aging, military affairs, tourism, communications, obesity, and pre- and post-natal health – to name just a fraction. As well, MSVU researchers are breaking ground in the areas of Alzheimer’s diagnosis and the effects of climate change on plants, and breaking down barriers facing young women interested in pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
